On November 3, 1969, PBS was created to provide educational televisionprogramming and services that reflect the diverse interests of theAmerican people.Today, nearly 90% of U.S. television households tune into PBS memberstations, and we are expanding our public service mission to digitalmedia. On November 3, 1969, PBS was created to provide educational television
programming and services that reflect the diverse interests of the
American people.

Today, nearly 90% of U.S. television households tune into PBS member
stations, and we are expanding our public service mission to digital
media. In September 2012, Americans watched more than 150 million
